THE BEGGAR WHO HAD NO SIGHT HAD INSIGHT

Luke 18:38-39

What a rare sight to witness a beggar with no sight who had insight! The beggar Bartimaeus persistently declared that Jesus is the Son of David (Luke 18:38, 39).

He showed insight and faith when he claimed that Jesus could show mercy on him, when he was not deterred by the crowd’s rebuke, when he expressed his desire to be healed, and when he decided to follow Jesus right after the restoration of his sight. The eyes of Bartimaeus were faulty but his eyes of faith saw how Jesus could change his life. That’s insight only God can give.

In addition to Bartimaeus’ insight and faith, we see the servant’s heart of Jesus. Jesus asked, “What do you want me to do for you?” (18:41a). This question is not what we commonly ask people. We would rather ask, “What can you do for me?” As we develop a servant’s heart, others can gain more insight and faith in our Lord Jesus.

Meditation:
Think of a seemingly “blinding” hindrance or handicap in your life, whether a physical, mental, social, financial, or spiritual one. Ask God for help. Hope in Him whose heart beats for us. Then also ask someone this question today: What do you want me to do for you?

Prayer:
Our Father, I pray for a fresh insight of You today that I may continue to hope in You and find help in Your name.
