PERSEVERE IN PRAYER
Luke 18:1,6-7
Jesus taught persevering prayer through the parable that involved a persistent woman who demanded justice from a wicked judge (18:1-8). What is the point of the parable? Always pray and don’t give up praying. Unlike the wicked judge. God desires to answer His children when they pray (v.7). But the question is: Will Christ find faith and faithfulness expressed in prayer?
A young boy was saying his bedtime prayer with his mother. He prayed, “Lord, bless Daddy and Mommy.” Then suddenly he shouted, “LORD GIVE ME A NEW BICYCLE!” The mother was surprised and said, “Honey, God’s not deaf.”
The boy said, “I know, mom, but Lola is in the other room, and she finds it hard to hear well.” Similarly, when we pray, we don’t have to shout to ensure that God listens, nor do we have to help God answer our prayer by making others hear our requests. God is not deaf or insensitive about our needs. He is quick to hear and has our best interest in mind.
Do you have a prayer request you have been bringing to God but which still seems unanswered after a long time? Keep praying and don’t give up. It’s worth persevering in prayer.
Meditation:
Enhance your prayer life today. Choose to persevere in prayer. Here are two tips: (1) set a specific time and place for prayer, and (2) start a prayer journal. This will show how serious we are in praying to God.
Prayer:
Our Father, You know my needs and You care about my needs. Teach me to pray and persevere in prayer, as I wait for You to answer.
