HONEST WORK, HONEST PAY

Proverbs 12:22

How far would you go to make money if you really needed it and if you were fairly sure you could make it? Some people would do anything to make money.

Almost every profession offers opportunities for dishonesty. Sales, advertising, and investment are among the most vulnerable. In this age of strong business competition, companies encourage their employees to do whatever they have to do to close a deal. People are seduced into misleading their customers, making false claims, and outright lying to close a deal.

A salesman once bragged to me that he could convince anyone that he needed his product. An insurance agent managed to convince his patrons that there was no need to read the fine print on their contracts. It’s just as easy to be dishonest by not giving certain information as it is to be dishonest by giving false information.

In today’s workforce people can find it difficult not to get caught up in dishonest business practices. Money and success seem to come to those who are dishonest, and honesty doesn’t get us anywhere. When you sense this, remember God’s promise of provision for you and your family.

Meditation:
My sufficiency is in God’s hands rather than in the grip of a lying tongue.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to be honest in my work; where people can see that You are living in me.
