TRUE SIGNIFICANCE

Proverbs 12:11

The Hebrew word for fantasies in today’s passage implies the frantic pursuit of vain, worthless aspirations. I remember a counselee who had been driven by the frivolous, frantic pursuit of materialism. He had everything this world has to offer, including misery, meaninglessness and suicidal urges. Trusting Christ was a significant part of his healing process. He learned to live his life more productively by giving it a solid foundation – God’s authority.

It costs a lot to feel important. The world says that we must do and own certain things in order to have our worth validated. We must have the right car, the right house, the right job, and know the right people.

We focus on the wrong things and chase them with the wrong reasons. All our attempts lead to emptiness and frustration. Only when we stop our fantasies and live in the reality that is God can life truly become meaningful.

Meditation:
Our true significance lies in our identity in, and relationship with God. Are there things in your life that are keeping you away from God?

Prayer:
Lord, please help me find significance in You rather than in frivolous, frantic, trivial pursuits.
